Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.487660 Composed by Claude Debussy (1892-1918). Arranged by Levy Nunes. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Score and parts. 39 pages. Published by Cambiata (A0.487660). Danseuses de Delphes is a musical composition for piano by the French composer Claude Debussy. It is the piece that opens the first book of the Preludes, written between the end of 1909 and the beginning of 1910. The work is inspired by the “Dancers of Delphiâ€, a sculpture fragment from the temple of Apollo in Delphi, whose photo the musician had seen at the Louvre in Paris. The transcription was requested by the conductor of the UFRJ Wind Orchestra for the concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Claude Debussy. Wind Orchestra: Piccolo, Flute 1-2, Oboe 1-2, English Horn, Clarinet in Eb, Clarinet in Bb 1-3, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax 1-2, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Bassoon 1-2, Contrabassoon, Horn 1-4, Trumpet in Bb 1-3, Trombone 1-2, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Bass Drum, Tamtam. Published by OlivePress Music (A0.1370381). From Debussyâ??s Préludes, Book I:I: The Wind Over The PlainsII: The Girl With The Flaxen HairIII: Puckâ??s DanceIV: The Sunken CathedralDebussyâ??s piano music is filled with colour, texture, vibrancy, sonority. To play it is to be taken inside a sound world greater than the instrument itself. In other words, it seems to demand orchestration. Whether the fanfare call of Puckâ??s Dance, the sotto voce flurries evoking The Wind Over The Plains, or the deepest and highest reaches of the musical spectrum explored in the under-water world of The Sunken Cathedral, Debussyâ??s music seems to drop hints at obvious orchestral manoeuvres. His great skill, of course, was condensing these musical ideas to the piano. But the fruit is there fo the taking, and indeed other orchestrations exist of the complete suite of piano preludes â?? Books I and II. So, why another? This particular suite cherry-picks some of my own favourite movements from the suite, and arranges them in a â??symphonicâ?? structure to present an opening, expository movement (The Wind Over The Plains), a romantic Adagio (The Girl With The Flaxen Hair), a sprightly â??scherzoâ?? (Puckâ??s Dance), concluding with an epic finale (The Sunken Cathedral). This condensed suite may make the music more approachable for some orchestras, and offers something shorter to concert programmes wishing to feature other major works alongside, instead of performing all 24 preludes.I hope you enjoy performing this suite as much as I enjoyed arranging it.Instrumentation: Piccolo 2 Flutes 2 Oboes Cor Anglais 2 Clarinets in Bâ? Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998578 Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Arranged by Michael Barrera. Romantic Period. 76 pages. Michael Barrera #6256209. Published by Michael Barrera (A0.998578). Https://www.michaelbarreraflute.com/shop/p/alla-marcia-orchestra-parts Program Notes Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Alla Marcia in g Minor is arguably one of his most popular pieces that is still played today. This prelude was included as number 5 in his Opus 23, a set of ten preludes for solo piano. Rachmaninoff himself premiered this prelude in Moscow in 1903, along with Preludes 1 and 2 from this set. It begins with quiet yet decisive sixteenth note figures setting the mood for a minor march. Following this, the relative major Eb comes in full force expanding this sixteenth note figure with a descant-like melody. After a return to g minor, the energy of the opening march dissipates as a new lyrical melody takes the forefront, accompanied by sweeping arpeggios. This section is much melancholier than before. As this theme fades, the march returns slowly out of the mist that the previous section created. It builds to the return of the Eb major section that leads into a continuation of the march theme. This fades into a quick rising figure to finish the prelude. This arrangement captures both the energy of the march and the beauty of the lyrical middle section. Program note: My love affair with the city of Rome dates back to the year 1986-87 when I spent just under eleven months at the American Academy in Rome on a Rome Prize Fellowship. During that Fellowship year I was very much inspired by the beauty and culture of the Eternal City, which resulted in a number of works that continue to resonate with me: Twenty-nine Fireflies Book II for solo piano; Concertino for trumpet, timpani and strings; Apples … six dreams by Richard Kenney; String Quartet No 5 … Four Birthdays; and Chôrinhos … opus 38. Since 1997 my wife, Kristin Beckwith, and I have returned to the American Academy in Rome almost every year. I would compose in the morning and then my wife and I would go to our usual haunt at Bar G. for cappuccini and cornetti. And then we’d go to the local bakery and street markets and buy stuff for lunch. In the afternoon we would wander into the city to go shopping and sight-seeing. In the evenings we would dine at one of our favorite local trattorias. Life could not be better in Rome. Musically speaking, several important works in my portfolio had their beginnings during these sojourns at the Academy , among them Yo Picasso, Flauta Carioca, Mass for the Holy Year 2000, Symphony No. 5 … Utopia Parkway, Twenty-nine Fireflies Books IV & V, and Piano Concerto … Mozartiana. Just before the 2008 recession, clarinetist extraordinaire Jonathan Cohler asked me to write a symphony for the inaugural concert of a new orchestra he was planning to create. I came up with Symphony No. 7 … Roman Holidays, my give back to the city of Rome – a compendium of favorite places that continue to live in my thoughts and musings. Although the work is heard in four movements, it is actually divided into seven sections, as in the seven hills of Rome. 1. Prelude: Fontana Paola and the panoramic view of the city of Rome from that vantage point. 2. First interlude: La Befana festivities at Piazza Navona. The Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio at night under a full moon. 3. Second interlude: Fontana delle Tartughe in the Jewish Ghetto. Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne at the Galleria Borghese. 4. Third interlude: Bernini’s Beata Ludovica Albertoni in Trastevere. The Spanish Steps and the view of Rome from the French Academy at Villa Medici. NB: Unfortunately, thanks to the recession, Roman Holidays never saw the light of day. This year (2013) I decided to revisit the work, which lay dormant for 5 five years, and saw that it could use a little tweaking. The new version is essentially the same, musically speaking. I reduced the orchestration a bit (two horns instead of four, and two trumpets instead of three) and added more heft to the lower brass. I completely rewrote the tune for the floating foreign ghosts at the Protestant Cemetery. I also shortened the work by about three minutes by cutting some repeats. Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/symphony-no-7-roman-holidays-2008-rev-2013Video link: https://youtu.be/1DlzEOUmH54

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942170 Composed by Georges Bizet. Arranged by Armin Terzer. Opera,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 259 pages. Armin Terzer #5048273. Published by Armin Terzer (A0.942170). This arrangement for full orchestra of the famous Bizet opera Carmen strings together all the major (and some of the secondary) themes into a 20-minute medley: - Prelude (Introduction to Act 1 Les Toreadors & Prelude to Act 1) - Chorus of the Street Boys (Act 1 Le garde montante) - Habanera - Song and Recitative - Seguidilla and Duet (Act 1 Seguedille) - Finale (Act 1 Finale) - Act II: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 2 Les dragons d’Alcala) - Gypsy Song (Act 2 Danse Boheme) - Toreador Song (Act 2 Chanson du Toreador) - Act III: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 3 Intermezzo) - Sextet and Chorus (Introduction to Act 3 Marche des contrebandiers) - Air (Act 3 Nocturne) - Act IV: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 4 Aragonaise) - March and Chorus – Finale (Act 4 Procession of the Toreadors) All the themes featured in the two orchestral suites by Ernest Guiraud are included. There are, however, major differences: - the themes appear in chronological order (like in the opera) - there are no distinct movements, this is a 20-minute romp featuring tune after tune - most parts, especially repetitive songs, are abridged to varying degrees - where appropriate, sections seamlessly segue into the next- the major tunes (Les Toreadors, Gypsy Song, Toreador Song) allow for applause afterwards - the orchestration follows the original (double woodwinds, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, harp, timpani and 3 percussion, strings) with minimal changes to compensate for missing vocal lines Further cuts are possible and easy to make due to the clearly marked sections. This arrangement is meant to rival the orchestral suites in excitement and colours - but in a more organic/continuous format. It is ideal for any level orchestra (intermediate+) in any kind of setting.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1277141 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Christian,Classical,Latin. Score and Parts. 282 pages. Adrian Gagiu #868829. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1277141). Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27 (orchestral parts). Based on its Neo-classical style, this setting of the Roman Catholic mass text could possibly work as a festive mass (missa solemnis) with trumpets and timpani, and its duration would fit such a solemn service. However, its intense and sometimes dramatic treatment and universal addressability due to its well-known and rather concentrated text, yet also due to eliminating the „Filioque†(which would still fit the rhythm of the repeated „qui ex Patreâ€, should any Catholics ever wish to perform this as a mass) make it rather a „liturgical oratorio for all nationsâ€, more appropriate in the concert hall. The work has had a long gestation: imagined in 1984 after the composer’s first contact with Beethoven’s masterpiece, then sketched first in 1987-1989, and many of its themes date back from those years. Its working out is quite polyphonic, discretely modal and cyclical, and also full of centuries-old musical symbols traditionally associated with the setting of the mass text: e.g. unisons for the more dogmatical parts, Baroque dotted rhythms at the Nativity (the first coming of the King of Kings), „rex caelestis†and also at his Passion (whose setting is discretely inspired by folkloric Romanian laments), the „anabasis†gesture at „Gloria in excelsis Deoâ€, „et ascendit in caelisâ€, „in remissionem peccatorum†and the resurrection, a flute trill standing for the Holy Spirit who has come ’like a dove’ at „et incarnatus estâ€, a cross-shaped texture at „crucifixusâ€, and some word-painting (hushed sonorities at „et invisibiliumâ€, anticipations between orchestra and chorus at „et exspecto†etc.). Moreover, certain symbolic roles are assigned to the instrumental groups when alone (the organ represents God the Father and transcendence, the winds and/or solo voices represent God the Son and humanity, and the strings represent the Holy Spirit). „Kyrie†is restrained and soft, besides the powerful chords opening the respective sections of its tripartite, simple structure, and it leans towards Palestrina’s serene modality and counterpoint. „Gloria†begins with a colorful orchestral introduction depicting discretely the shepherds who kept watch over their flocks right before the Nativity, and then gradually the bright revelation. „Credo†has an orchestral introduction as well, but powerful, recurring and based on the beginning of the plainchant hymn „Pange linguaâ€, made famous by Mozart’s last symphony and by other Classical composers. Both „Gloria†and „Credo†end with extended, powerful and elaborate fugues („in gloria Dei Patris†and „et vitam venturi saeculiâ€, respectively) with dramatic modulations and sometimes with enthusiastic syncopations at odds with the words’ accents, a la Stravinsky. The same sections plus „Agnus Dei†end with soft quartal harmonies suggesting transcendent appeasement (similar harmonies appear powerfully at the beginning of „Sanctusâ€). „Judicare†quotes the beginning of the well-known „Dies irae†plainchant tune, and the Consecration between the „Sanctus†and „Benedictus†sections is represented by a contemplative prelude for solo organ, quoting Lutheran chorales, too. Another long orchestral introduction, suggesting the Last Judgment and based on traditional Byzantine hymns, opens „Agnus Deiâ€, which includes another quotation (the famous ’Dresden Amen’ at „qui tollis peccata mundi†and „dona nobis pacemâ€). In the final section, with its refined simplicity, the choral voices enter in descending order, and the „Kyrie eleison†theme is briefly remembered, then it ends softly and peacefully. Total duration: 50 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is Kyrie.

Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27 (conductor's score). Published by Dacker Music (A0.814731). The music of Paisano Suite was composed in 1982 for the Austin Ballet Theatre on a grant from the City of Austin. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT Artistic Director Stanley Hall. This music was originally scored for a small pit orchestra, and it was only in 2012 that it was shortened and re-orchestrated to create this suite for full orchestra. Since the original title is a term used specifically for dance music, and the new version of the work is meant to be a concert suite rather than a ballet, it was also re-titled after the Paisano Ranch, in the central Texas Hill Country, where it was originally composed and which served as its inspiration. The entire nearly twenty-minute suite is actually based on a fairly modest amount of musical material and the eight short movements are thematically all very closely related. The overall framework is highly unified in that way.Scored for woodwinds, horns, and trumpets in pairs; 1 trombone, tympani, and strings.1. Prelude 2. Scherzo 3. Berceuse 4. Fugue 5. Pastorale 6. Full Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). Arranged by Michael Barrera. Romantic Period. Score. 16 pages. Published by Michael Barrera
ProgramNotes

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Alla Marciain g Minor is arguably one of his most popular pieces that is still playedtoday. This prelude was included asnumber 5 in his Opus 23, a set of ten preludes for solo piano. Rachmaninoff himself premiered this preludein Moscow in 1903, along with Preludes 1 and 2 from this set. It begins with quiet yet decisive sixteenthnote figures setting the mood for a minor march. Following this, the relative major Eb comesin full force expanding this sixteenth note figure with a descant-like melody. After a return to g minor, the energy of theopening march dissipates as a new lyrical melody takes the forefront, accompanied by sweeping arpeggios. Thissection is much melancholier than before. As this theme fades, the march returns slowly out of the mist that theprevious section created. It builds tothe return of the Eb major section that leads into a continuation of the marchtheme. This fades into a quick risingfigure to finish the prelude. Thisarrangement captures both the energy of the march and the beauty of the lyricalmiddle section.

Instrumentation

2 Flutes

2 Oboes

2 Clarinets (B flat)

2 Bassoons

4 Horns (F)

3 Trumpets (B flat)

2 Trombones

1 Bass Trombone

1 Tuba

Timpani

Snare Drum

Tambourine

Harp (substitute piano ifnecessary)

Violins I and II

Viola

Violincello

Double Bass

Full Orchestra - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century, Impressionistic. Score. 19 pages. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing
Scored for 21EH22/2200/timp/1perc/hp/strings Parts on rental.

Debussy’s friendship with the versatile poet and playwright Gabriel Mourey began in 1899, and in July 1907, Mourey offered Debussy a libretto based on Le roman de Tristan - Joesph Bédier’s adaptation of a twelfth-century Breton romance by the Anglo-Norman poet known as Tomas - which had recently been published in Paris. Debussy enthusiastically outline the four-act plot to Victor Segalen that October, and the main differences from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde are that none of the action takes place in Cornwal and that “Isolde of the white hands” is found guilty of cuckolding King Marc with Tristan, who has to rescue her from the leper colony in which she is abandoned in Act 1. She also betrays hi when he goes mad at the end.

The idea of a Tristan that restorced its ‘legendary character’ and had no connections with Wagner, appealed to Debussy, who was extremely moved by the circumstances of Tristan’s death. Even if he thought that Mourey’s poetry was “not very lyrical and many passages do not exactly “invite” music”, he did work on the libretto and the music that summer and sent his pubisher Jacques Durand, ‘one of the 363 themes for the “Roman de Tristan”’ in a letter sent from Pourville on 23 August, 1907. The present prelude grows from this theme, together with the poignant Breton folksong “Le Faucon”. After a short atmospheric introduction, Debussy’s dance-like theme (which is definitely not a leitmotif) gradually gains momentum and after it reaches it ecstatic climas, representing the transient happiness of the lovers, it dissolves into an expressive coda and an elegiac close (all growing from Debussy’s opennning, off-stage trumpet calls), leaving us with the ultimate tragedy of their ill-fated advice.

Unforunately, Mourey’s actual libretto has been lost and the project eventually foundered because Bédier’s cousin, Louis Artus, wanted Debussy to use the scenario he had prepared and copyrights for the stage, and would not allow him to proceed with Mourey’s version. Debussy, it need hardly be said, would never have dreamed of collaborating with the author of the vaudeville hit La culotte (The pants)!
